HOW TO ENSURE INCLUSION AND EQUITY IN EDUCATION 

In spite of great efforts between 2000 and 2015, we have not yet achieved education for all. It was a tall order, and advances were made. However, there are still too many children and young people not in either formal or informal education.

What needs to change if we are to meet the sustainable development goal where we are to ensure inclusive, quality, equitable, education and lifelong learning for all by 2030? Through activities, readings, videos, this course will help you to think about how we might try to meet that goal.

We've included the voices of people, teachers, students, academics, who have experienced barriers to education or who have worked with young people who've experienced barriers. There are many reasons why young people will have barriers to education. Perhaps more than ever, we need to think about how we meet their needs, how we ensure that we are including them and valuing them in our education systems.

COURSE OUTCOMES

On successful completion this course, you will be able to:

  • Compare a range of international legislation relating to Education for All, inclusion and disability
  • Assess how education can help to break down barriers for those that are marginalised
  • Assess why groups are marginalised from educational opportunities, considering thing such as the link between poverty and disability
  • Collaborate to identify some useful tops for creating a more inclusive learning environment
